Why accountants recommend Invoa
Built for the income side of freelance compliance — so your clients do the right thing without needing to understand why.
MTD-ready digital records
Every invoice is stored digitally with payment date — exactly what MTD for Income Tax requires from April 2026. No more clients arriving with shoeboxes.
HMRC-compliant invoices every time
VAT numbers, correct VAT rate display, separate tax lines — Invoa enforces the right format automatically. Fewer compliance questions for you.
Your clients will actually use it
No double-entry bookkeeping to learn. Clients create invoices, track payments, and set reminders. Most are up and running in under 5 minutes.
Clean data for your year-end work

Sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates.
April 2027
MTD ITSA Phase 2
The threshold drops to £30,000. Most active freelancers will be in scope. Good time to make sure clients have compliant records in place now.
What Invoa covers
- Digital invoice records stored and timestamped
- Payment dates recorded against each invoice
- Income summaries exportable for quarterly review
- HMRC-compliant invoice format enforced automatically
We recommend pairing Invoa with your preferred bookkeeping software for expense recording and direct MTD submissions.

Is Invoa an approved MTD software provider?
Invoa provides the digital invoice records that form the income side of MTD compliance. For direct quarterly submissions to HMRC, clients will also need MTD-compatible bookkeeping software. Invoa integrates cleanly with that workflow.
Do my clients need an accountant to use Invoa?
No. Invoa is designed so freelancers can manage their invoicing independently. That said, we are built to complement your work: clean records, exportable data, and HMRC-compliant invoices mean less reconstruction work at year end.
Is there a partner or referral programme?
We are developing a formal partner programme. If you would like to be involved, contact us at support@invoa.co.uk — we would love to hear from practices already recommending Invoa.
Can I view my clients' invoices?
Multi-user access and accountant view are on the roadmap. Currently each client manages their own account. Invoice data is exportable.
